Most people come to me when they are burnt out with a long list of physical symptoms

I have been working with the body for over 40 years, and the truth is, most people have never heard of bodywork or somatic therapy until something in their body begins to demand attention.

Many people arrive when they are burnt out, overwhelmed, or simply no longer able to keep pushing through the way they used to.

By that point, stress is often no longer just mental or emotional. It has become physical. It may show up as fatigue, insomnia, digestive issues, muscle tension, headaches, chest tightness, vertigo, brain fog, or a general sense that the body is no longer cooperating in the way it once did.

Burnout affects every person differently
The story behind burnout is different for everyone, and so are the symptoms. Each body responds to prolonged stress in its own way. But over the years, I have noticed two things that are very common in people experiencing burnout:

  1. They have lost trust in themselves
Burnout often leaves people feeling confused by their own body and frustrated by what they can no longer do. Many begin to feel they cannot rely on themselves in the way they used to.

  2. They become disconnected from their body
Often without realising it, they lose touch with the signals their body is giving them. They may feel numb, tense, exhausted, or unsure of what they truly need.

This loss of trust can be one of the hardest parts of burnout.

Common symptoms of burnout may include:

  • Chronic fatigue or low energy

  • Insomnia or poor-quality sleep

  • Muscle tension and body tightness

  • Headaches or migraines

  • Digestive issues: bloating, acid reflux, or irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)

  • Chest tightness or shallow breathing

  • Heart palpitations or a racing heart

  • Dizziness or vertigo

  • Brain fog and poor concentration

  • Weakened immune system or getting sick more often

  • Jaw tension or teeth grinding

  • Hormonal imbalances or menstrual changes

  • Feeling wired but exhausted

  • Neck tension, back pain

  • Anxiety and depression

You cannot recover from burnout using the same patterns that led you there…

One of the most important things I have learned through this work is that you cannot recover from burnout using the same patterns that led you there.

  • You cannot force your way back into wellbeing.

  • You cannot pressure the body into relaxing.

  • You cannot use aggression to make pain, fear, or anxiety disappear.

  • You cannot build health by overriding what your body is trying to tell you.

To work with burnout, you need a different approach…

You need to slow down enough to listen, explore what the body has been carrying, and begin rebuilding a relationship based on attention, respect, and trust. That is where change begins. That is where our work starts.

START THE JOURNEY: 6 - 12 MONTHS

The Burnout Recovery Program with Beatriz

The Burnout Recovery Program is a one-to-one process that offers a structured and supportive space to begin recovering from burnout in a deeper and more sustainable way.

Through a series of regular weekly 1-hour sessions, we work together to explore what your body has been carrying, what patterns may have led you here, and what needs to change so that recovery becomes possible.

This is not about pushing yourself to “get better.” It is about learning how to listen differently, respond differently, and rebuild trust in yourself and your body over time.

The first phase: Slowing down and identify what is happening

In the beginning, the work is often about creating enough safety and space for your system to begin settling.

Many people arrive in burnout feeling exhausted, disconnected, tense, emotionally overwhelmed, or unable to clearly sense what they need. Often, they have also lost trust in themselves and in their body.

Together, we begin by slowing things down and explore what is happening beneath the symptoms.

We clarify what you are experiencing, what you want to change, and what your body may have been trying to communicate for a long time.

The learning phase: Reconnecting with your body and interrupting old patterns

As the process continues, you begin to develop more awareness through the body.

You learn to notice where you are holding effort, pressure, tension, or stress, often in ways that have become so familiar you no longer realise you are doing them.

You may also begin to recognise patterns such as:

  • overriding your limits

  • staying in constant alertness

  • disconnecting from your needs

  • pushing through exhaustion

  • using pressure, control, or self-criticism to keep going

These patterns are often deeply learned and, for many people, they have been necessary for a long time. But they are also often part of what keeps burnout going.

Through the consistency of the weekly bodywork, you begin to relate differently to stress, fatigue, fear, pressure, and recovery. This creates the possibility for something new.

Integration Phase: Bringing recovery into everyday life

Burnout recovery is not only about feeling better during a session. It is about learning how to live differently in your daily life.

Over time, the work begins to translate into practical and meaningful changes, such as:

  • noticing earlier when you are reaching your limit

  • feeling more connected to your body and what it needs

  • recovering your energy more easily

  • becoming less reactive to stress

  • making choices with more clarity and less self-pressure

  • rebuilding trust in yourself

As these changes begin to integrate, the body can gradually move out of survival mode and into a greater sense of regulation, stability, and wellbeing.

Recovery from burnout often takes time.
But with the right support, it is possible to begin relating to yourself in a very different way.
